Chaos Lord Kranon

After my furious weekend of work, I decided to instead of batch painting, settle down and do some high-level work.

Finished the Chaos Lord for commission.  Very, very happy how he turned out. I went with an Iron Warriors look for him. It took me a while to get moving on him mainly because of the insane detail. After studying pics online I formulated a plan and jumped on the paint job.  Everything went pretty much as I had planned as well, so that always helps!  Just need to hit him with the dull-cote.

Enjoy the pics!

Road to the Bay Area Open 3b

Just a real quick update. Spent today mostly doing nothing, but did finish my new loota.

Love this guy.  Did the psycannon in a heavy drybrush of boltgun, then washed it with Asurmen Blue, then a drybrush of chailmail before rusting it and all added Ork metals.

That's it for now!

Road to the Bay Area Open 3

Phew what a day!  Wife and daughter took off to grampa's for the night so that left me with only my son, which gave me a lot of free time.  Spent most of it on hobby stuff! Wow!

I finished the last boy for the black squad (minus basing, my PVA is still in storage).  Finished the base for the quad-gun. Finished the 2nd unit of lobbas.  Primed the other 6 fire warriors.  Started painting the heavy psy-cannon loota.

Hey and that wasn't all! I also vacuumed the living room, swept the kitchen, did dishes. Watched Iron Sky, the last 3 episodes of season 2 of Portlandia and an episode of Restaurant Impossible I had not seen before.

Time for some sleep!

Road to the Bay Area Open 2

First step is getting done 6 of my Blood Axe Firewarriors.  So far, so good. Getting them to a minimum standard first and then moving on to more detail

Oh, also found out the first tax filing date has been pushed back from the 22nd to the 30th. Which means I probably won't be getting my tax refund in time to order, build and paint the HQ and broadsides.  If that's the case, I'll have to re-base some models to match the Orks.

After the Firewarriors are done, I need to make a precise to-do list.  So far I know I need to touch up and paint a choppa arm for the Big Mek (since I won't be taking the burna), paint 23 sets of arms and 2 big shoota boys on the tan squad, and another big shoota for the black squad.  Other "would be nice" things includes adding more detail to the deffkopters.  I might buy and build another Eldar bike so I have 3 of them ..if only I had time.

The move has really put a damper on everything I wanted to do. It looks like this year I'll be stuck with a mediocre paint score.  Really wanted more for my first major tournament try.

I'm baaaackkk..Road to the Bay Area Open

So it's a new year. Holiday bullshit is over.  Move is (mostly) done.  Football season winding down.  Time to jump back into the hobby with both feet and get my shit done for the BAO!

Still plan on going, depending on how the cash goes.  I can't do 100% for sure yet.

1750pts.  Book missions.  7 games in 2 days.  Weeeee!

Anyway on to the list:

Primary Detachment:

HQ (90): Big Mek: KFF, Bosspole

Troop (200): 25 Shoota boys, 2x big shoota, Nob with powerklaw and bosspole
Troop (235): 30 Shoota boys, 3x Big shoota, Nob with powerklaw and bosspole
Troop (195): 30 Shoota boys, 3x Big shoota

Elite (150): 10 Lootas
Elite (150): 10 Lootas
Elite (150): 10 Lootas

Fast Attack (130): 3x Deffkoptas, 1x Buzzsaw

Heavy (84): 3x Lobba, 3x ammo runts

Fortification: Aegis defense line; quad gun

Allied Detachment:

HQ (76): Shas'el; TL Missile pod, Blacksun filter, hard-wired target lock

Troop (60): 6x Firewarriors

Heavy (160): 2x XV88, 2x targeting array

1750 exactly

I am going to try to paint up new Tau units to match my Ork army instead of just taking what I have.  Time and money may get in the way.

I have a lot of nit-picky stuff to do, like paint 23 sets of arms.  Time to get working!

Update: Dropzone Commander magnetized

I received my order from K&J Magnetics, and finally had a chance to finish off the work on my existing models.  All the vehicles are now magnetized to the drop ships, and stay on there pretty well.  The Scout walkers will a little harder, but I got it done.

I also picked up a couple regular model kits for 75% off from a closeout at my local HobbyTownUSA.  I missed most of it though, sucks.  They had a stack of HO scale building kits..oh man I wish they were N scale because that's what I need for DZC.

In a couple months with taxes I plan on building a DZC table.  My new place has more then enough room to set up a full sized gaming table, so that is also on the list.

Anyway, pics..

Now I need to figure out a color scheme..

Dropzone Commander!

First, the good news: I found a new place with just 3 days to spare!  Everything is moved in but still have a lot to do. I also went to storage tonight and grabbed most of my hobby stuff.

Bad news: well, there is no bad news!

Best news: I was finally able to pick up some Dropzone Commander, specifically a PHR starter army to go along with the other 2 blisters I have

I have put together the first unit, magnets and all.  I found I need more magnets of the right size, and the models I have don't actually make a legal list...but that's easy to fix.

The walkers are magnetized to the connection points and the dropship is magnetized onto the flying stand.  The walkers would be awesome on 25mm bases but that would look silly dangling in the air..

Anyway I have a lot to comment on the models themselves, but will do that in an upcoming video.
