Third edition stormboyz

Stay home orders have me looking for projects.  I've had these models sitting on the table for a while, after stripping. Plus I had a brand new set I bought about a year ago.

I had bought Kromlech punk heads but they are too big for the boys.  I did another old project, replacing the incorrect heads on my Kommandos with the proper gas mask heads and used the iron heads for these.

I only had 20 completed so I took 10 of the models and finished them up to get a full unit.  Now it's time to re-base the other 20.  They don't need any refurbishment just bases.

after going through the 20 they have a bunch of cool bases, including resin, I'll re-purpose for some of the crappy bases I have on my Grots.

I'll probably also replace the Nob's metal arms with plastic. That's something I frequently do.  It saves weight and makes the nob more stable... especially on 32mm bases. And maybe a punk head.

I still need to finish painting the warkopta but not sure exactly how I'll attack it yet.

Showcase: Evil Sunz warbikes w/GorkaMorka banners

after many many months I have finally finished this unit!

I absolutely love how they came out.  I plan on getting another unit someday, but for now these will replace one of the units I already have.

Not much else to say,  I would love to get the Evil Sunz back on the table but I need to re-base both units of boys to do so.  Maybe a package of 100 32mm bases is in my future.

Kustom loota Flashgitz

A long time ago I had an idea to make my own Flashgitz because I simply don't like the pirate aesthetic of the GW kit.  I had no idea what to use for weapons until I decided to use up all the extra heavy bolters I had from all the devastator kits I bought. So I bought a box of Nobz and gave it a shot.

After much trial I finished the first one and loved how it turned out.

But moving on to the 2nd one I realized I could use other weapons as well.  Multi-melta, plasma cannon, etc.  This makes each one much more unique.

I'm pretty darn happy with how they turned out.  They will be painted up in a simple non-klan specific scheme similar to a majority of my army.

The heads are Steampunk orc heads from Spellcrow.

Showcase: Evil Sunz Looted Viper Deffkilla Wartrike

It took some time but finally finished this project.

I had to order the base off eBay because GW does not make the 150mm oval separately.  It's MDF so it ads a lot to the weight.

Very happy with how it came out.  I did as much as I could to copy the original model including the 3 twin boomsticks, the snagga claw with chain and spools and the rockets as the Jets.

The warboss is based on a Reaper Bones Mountain Troll model and is magnetized so I can put him on a regular base and run it on foot - to use the Redder Armor someday.

I got 3 150mm bases so the other 2 are going to go under the UFO's which will count as Megatrakk scrapjets.

Finished the 'ard case, killkannon and defrolla for the Evil Sunz Battlewagon.

Amazing to me how much different the model is with everything on it.

Dark Angels update: hellblasters, ancient.

Can't believe it's been a month since I posted here. I mainly use twitter for updates but will try to post more.  For now, this is my completed Primaris Ancient.

And the first set of Hellblasters.  Just 7 Dark Angels models left to paint now, 5 more of these, an apothecary and the Darktalon.

But next I want to finish my Evil Sunz.

Showcase: Sammael on Sableclaw; Casual Dark Angels list

Finally all done.  Pictured with the Talonmaster wingman.

These guys are the cornerstone of a decent Ravenwing detachment, with re-rolls and lots of shots per model.

Next weekend I have a casual event, and I toned down my DA list a bit to be more balanced to play stuff I wouldn't normally play.

Showcase: Evil Sunz Big Mek on Jetbike w/kff

I would call this a side project. Realizing I needed a 2nd HQ choice to field a battalion, I went with the obvious of a Mek on bike w/kff.  But going through my bits I found a big inspiration: Left over engine bits from a Stormhawk.

Didn't take long to build, and not long to paint but I could not be happier with the outcome. It's just about my favorite model other than the Valkyrie battlewagon.

So now I can actually field an Evil Sunz only army!  Sure it does not mean anything yet, but we're getting there!

This is what I have:

Battalion detachment
HQ: Zadsnark
HQ: Big Mek on bike, kff, big choppa, Relic.

Troops: 12 boys, nob w/pk
Troops: 12 boys, nob w/pl
Troops: 12 boys, nob w/BC
Troops: 30 shoota boys, 3 rokkits, nob w/BC

Elite: Mek, Killsaw, grot oiler
Elite: Tankbustas, nob, 2 bomb squigs

Flyer: wazbom blastajet, WMK, kff *unpainted
Flyer: Blitza-bommer

Heavy: 5 Lootas

Dedicated: Trukk, big shoota
Dedicated: Trukk, big shoota
Dedicated: Trukk, big shoota
Dedicated: Trukk, big shoota *unpainted

That currently sits at 1659 pts

I have a used Battlewagon I may re-purpose for Evil Sunz, to hold the lootas.

Project Evil Sunz continues: Loota showcase.

Not much to say here, finished the lootas. that means I've completed all the first wave of models for Project Evil Sunz: 10 tankbustas, trukk, 4 extra boys, mek and 5 lootas.

They go fairly fast, so it hasn't taken much time to get everything complete.

I also needed a 2nd HQ choice to field a battalion.  Plus the other trukk.   More building!!!

Showcase: Evil Sunz Tankbustas

Project Evil Sunz is moving along quickly, with the Trukk and tankbustas done.  I am already diving into the Lootas and then I need to paint the Blastajet.

I am still trying to figure out what to do with my last Trukk kit.  But that will be Evil Sunz as well.

That's it for now, they look great piling out of their Trukk ready to shoot up some armor!

Showcase: Ravenwing Darkshroud

Nice thing about painting Ravenwing is it's mostly black. Didn't take long to finish up the Darkshroud. I especially like the blue and gold window, really stands out in the overall Ravenwing pallet. I left the relic separate for transport, but I'm worried about how easy the heavy bolter will come off.  We'll see.

It will be on the table this week for sure. I dropped the razorback - which I was already planning on doing - and a regular bike to make room for it in the list. Overall it didn't change much.

Showcase: Kromlech Orc Dakka Bunkers

Very happy with these kits. Not only are they cheaper than the official GW model, but were very easy to put together, look great and are perfect for keeping stuff alive.

These might even end up in a battle report soon. Will be almost strange playing Orks again.

Showcase: XV-95 Ghostkeel

It's finally done. After a bunch of hemming and hawing over what colors go where, I finished it up over the weekend.  Of course having all the weapons magnetized adds time to complete the work, but it's worth it.

As my supply of fenris grey dwindles, the less I'm inclined to paint the Tau.  I do plan on at least the 3rd marksman and last 2 sniper drones I have.  The Stormsurge, someday soon-ish, but the other 2 ghostkeels might end up on ebay.

Showcase: Tidewall Droneport

I watched another guy at my FLGS play 2 of these the other night, and I decided to give it a go. Besides it looks fun to paint - and it was.  Plus it includes drones which I was going to buy anyway.

It is a bit expensive for what you get, even for GW models.

It will reduce my number of drops. So nixed one unit of tactical drones and a ghostkeel. Added in this (with it's own marker drones) and an XV9!  A bit more mobility I think. More things in manta strike. I might even do the same with the 2nd ghostkeel and add in my firesight marksman - which I'm painting right now.  yes, instead of Kommandos.

It looks awesome. Love the model. Makes me want to get more tidewall bits, but they can add up fast at the register.  Also at 70pts a pop, not sure how worth it is.

So I am working on my sniper drones and marksman, and yes the kommandos as well. Slowly.  I really need to work on bases both for the kommandos and the bomber.
