A long time ago I had an idea to make my own Flashgitz because I simply don't like the pirate aesthetic of the GW kit. I had no idea what to use for weapons until I decided to use up all the extra heavy bolters I had from all the devastator kits I bought. So I bought a box of Nobz and gave it a shot.
After much trial I finished the first one and loved how it turned out.
But moving on to the 2nd one I realized I could use other weapons as well. Multi-melta, plasma cannon, etc. This makes each one much more unique.
I'm pretty darn happy with how they turned out. They will be painted up in a simple non-klan specific scheme similar to a majority of my army.
The heads are Steampunk orc heads from Spellcrow.

Looted Viper Deffkilla wartrike, build complete.
I'm going to call this build done. Can't see much of the Viper but it's there! Still have to figure out a base as GW does not sell the 150mm base separately yet. There are some acrylic/MDF on eBay so I'll probably order one after the holiday.
It's going to be Evil Sunz to match the Mek on Jetbike I made.
Really happy with the Warboss conversion from the Reaper Bones model. He's magnetized and I plan on making a 40mm base for him to be on foot if I want.

Rebuilding an old scratch built battlewagon.
So this is the first battlewagon I built, shortly after the 4th ed codex came out and before the official GW model.
It's far too wide and too low compared to the stock model. Being too wide makes it hard to deploy and too low means I might get accused of "modelling for advantage". Since I'm a player first, I strive to build all my stuff in line with GW stuff for game purposes.
Last night I tore the entire model apart and started rebuilding it into more of a playable size.
So an xacto knife, a bit of CA and a few hours later:
So now I have 3 playable battlewagons to use for the Bully Boyz. I plan on painting up a trukk in Bad Moonz to go along with the Meganobz next.

Other then a roll bar and a glyph from the trukk kit, it's entirely recycled from the original build.
I'm incredibly happy with it. It's the perfect size of just over 3" tall, just about 4" wide and about 8" long. I was thinking I would have to completely repaint it, but I might be able to get away with just touching it up, at least for now.
I didn't have much left over either!

Yet another Mek Gun update...
Holy crap these things are just consuming so much of my time.
However I finally see the light at the end of the construction tunnel. Painting them will go pretty quick, I hope..
All the chassis are primed, the kustom mega-kannons are primed, the smasha guns are primed. The tractor kannon conversion bits are halfway done, and need to finish the last 2 battery packs.
Got some leadbeltcher down on the chassis and kannons. Yes, I have 3 actual kannons as well..but will probably never use them.
Control panels on the back of the kustom mega-kannons.
Control panels on the back of the Smasha guns/tracktor kannons.
Tracktor kannon bits in place.
I've spent the better part of every spare hour I've had over the last 2 weeks on these things. I really want to get them done. The base coats will probably be on soon, but then I'll have to wait for a day off to grab the airbrush and do the colors.
That's it for now!

Ork Mek gun work in progress - Kustom Mega-Kanon
You want to know something? Scratch building is very, very time consuming. I'm spending several hours at a spell just grinding through stuff and I don't seem to be getting very far.
Today I spent most of the night building boxes. 4 battery boxes and 3 more boxes for the control units of the kustom mega-kanons. Then just building one mount for one of the guns was a lot of work.
But I have one..yes just one..kustom mega-kanon *almost* done. Just almost. Still needs detail on the control box.
I'm going to bed. Just a quick pic of the first gun, with the power pack attached.

More Mek Gun work in progress - tracktor kannons.
These things are turning out to be a lot of work.
Sure, I've finished 5 guns for lobbas but I have not even come close to finishing the energy weapons nor even primed the other 5 chassis.. but that will be done very shortly.
The dollar store toy guns are great for smasha guns, and now I have 5 of them - need 1 more. However I need to somehow distinguish tracktor kannons from smasha guns. I have been taking my queues from the stock model and building a set of arms to magnetize on the barrel.
So far, so good. I like how they are coming out. Just need to come up with a bit to stick on the ends of the arms.
I also came up with an acceptable idea for a power pack, again similar to the stock model that has a battery or whatever off to the side of the gun body. I simply could not find the bit on ebay so I just did a press mold with instantmold and built a small box. It looks "worky" enough for my taste and will just magnetize on the side of both the smasha guns and the kustom mega-kannons once I make progress on those. Again, I will need a total of 6 of these..
It's been very tedious work so far. I've gone one good mold to use for the battery pack so I can built at most one a day. And I'm running out of greenstuff!
But now all the ideas for the energy weapons are in my head, I'm going to get working on priming and painting the 5 chassis while also working on the Bloodthirster.
That's it for now.

Even more Mek Gun scratch builds!
I've finished building 10 Mek Gun Chassis. I had a problem coming up with wheels, but found some perfect ones on a dollar store quad bike. $2 later I have 8 wheels to finish the last 4 chassis.
Also looking through the toys I found an action figure with a cool looking gun. Only this one type of gun however, and I think it fits best as a smasha gun . It should paint up real nice especially with some plasma/OSL airbrush work.
I'll keep looking through cheap toys, if I can't find anything I'll just get more of these and modify them for tracktor kannons and kustom mega-cannons.
I'll be working on the paint on these guys slowly, as not only did I pick up another commission, but I am also thinking I need more mek models..

Mek Guns - 5 now completed!
Lots of work done! 5 total guns are now complete. I'm starting to run out of materials lol.
The first two guns are made with extendable arms so they can be towed. Just so happens the Trukk kit has a hook on the back that's perfect for the job!
No effect in game, but will look cool on the display board!
I need to come up with more ideas for wheels, but I may end up just getting more Trukk wheels off ebay.
Quick update, more soon!

Scratch building Ork Mek Guns
Codex isn't even out yet..hell the model isn't even officially released yet but I love Ork artillery so much that I will continue to use them after the book comes out.
I did notice the GW website does not say the new kit can make the old Big Guns - Lobbas, kannon and zzap. I hope that does not mean these options are going to be removed in favor of the new options. I mean lobbas are not only the best current option but are just flat-out amazing overall. In units of 5 they could be just insane.
I can see the zzap gun going away though, as the Smasha gun is obviously superior. But to think the Bubble Chukka would be a replacement for lobbas is insane. I'll literally cry if I lose my lobbas!
In the spirit of fair play, I can't keep using my current models. It's not like I have the old metal Big Guns models..everything i have is converted or scratch built and way undersized even compared to even the old models. So it's time for an upgrade..both in stature and style.
I'm really happy so far on how these are coming out. I'll have to come up with repeatable ides for the rest of the guns..I'm hoping to find something to loot from the dollar store or something to they can be easily repeatable.
These take about, oh 3-4 hours each to build. I am also cannibalizing my old Lobbas for wheels and bits. My goal will be to eventually have 10 (maybe more) guns..4-5 lobbas, 4 tracktor cannons, 4 smasha guns and 2-3 Kustom Mega-kannons as options. Right now I don't have any money for additional parts so I'll go with what I have. I might get more Trukk wheels..I do like the look of them for sure.
Anyway, pics!

Stratch built Ork Void Shield Generator
Yep, the build is done. I need to hit the wood with sanding sealer, but that's it.
I'm incredibly happy with how it came out, and the cost of this is so low as to be almost trivial. The center is more of the bits from the power plant kit, and they will be painted like the power plant terrain piece, as if one of the lines going into the ground comes up and powers the VSG.
Anyway, pics.

Custom Ork Trukk #3 build complete!
This one was a LOT more work then the last two, but was totally worth it.
First, I extended the rear frame just enough to hold the third axle. I then cut the front and middle of the frame to shorten it up. I carefully spaced the 3rd axle using the leaf springs and drive shaft from the other kit so it was spaced just right.
The biggest issue was the engine, I simply didn't have enough room for it. I butchered it and made it fit into the space I had, so it only just looks like an engine enough to call it good.
The doors were almost an afterthought, and now I'm glad I did. That way I can take the driver out to paint it separately and then glue him in place later.
I decided to leave it a flatbed because I thought it looked cool and that way I can use it for other things..like a flakkatrukk later if I want.
I didn't magnetize anything because I figure the primer and paint in the hinges will keep the doors closed, and the cab does not really need one at all.

Ork power plant terrain part 2
The plaster is damaged along the bottom, and I was going to fix it but decided to leave it..it looks like it's rusted away which is perfect.
Also finished the walls and paths.
Very happy with it so far, but I will have to take a break from it to work on a comission.
Pics, for now!

Dakkajet hangar build complete!
I actually finished this a while ago, but didn't take any pics until tonight.
Finished the ground and the 2nd door. It's freaking awesome. Paint will come after the Thunderfire is done.
Not much to say, so ..pics!

More on the Ork Dakkajet hangar..doors and floor.
Quick update, but quite a bit of work. I spent a lot of time trying to
figure out what to do for a floor as I didn't just want a wood floor. I
was looking at some patterned plasticard but at $11 for enough to do
it, I couldn't justify it.
I wanted a concrete look, so I went with the next best option..plaster of paris. I did a poor just as if I was doing a real concrete floor. I made the plaster a bit wattery to make it easier to spread out, but that ended up causing the water damage to the sides. Which makes it look better, actually. Lesson learned! Despite that, I *LOVE* how it came out.
The other stumbling block was the front door. I was going over many ideas in my mind, and looking at pics of real doors online. A lot of hangars have doors that slide open side-to-side, but that requires large brackets that sit outside the silhouette of the building, and thus would be highly impracticable for this terrain piece.
So after sitting for 4 days, I was driving around and the solution hit me..and after dropping everything and working on it last night the the result is absolutely perfect. A functional door that folds out of the way completely so I can still get the Dakkajet inside, yet does not leave the footprint of the base of the piece. And it looks awesome.
So now I'm really, really close to done. Just have to build the second door, finish off the ground work around the building, and seal up the edges of the foamcore.
More to come!!

Ya it's kinda boring in the pic, but AWESOME in person! |

Ork Dakkajet hangar update
Spending a little time each day after work, the hangar is coming along quite nicely.
Some patch panels, door and window in the back.
Side window. This was actually quite a bit of work, and I really like how it came out.
Put in a skylight, and also added a "florescent light" to the underside of the roof. I've since added a second one.
Even ran wires for the light..
Finally, I built a large crow's nest on the roof to give a nice shooting position. This will be awesome on the tabletop.
I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with the front doors and the floor.
I realized I could have actually lit up the inside with LED's, but in reality I don't have the money right now to invest in parts..so I'll have to stay with the pretend lighting.
This should be done in the next couple of days. Until next time!
