Showcase: Imperial Fists Drop Pods

Another completed commission to go with the rest of the army I've painted.  One more drop pod to go - which is currently in the stripper.

Unlike the rest of the models I've done for this customer, he wanted a bit of weathering on these, but not a lot.  So some black smoke marks from the vents on the doors and I mixed some black and white into a grey for a bit of carbon scoring.

In between steps on these I've been working on the last of my power armor models, and I've made some darn good progress with 4 Grey Hunters and 3 Death Company now complete.  Once again, need more 32mm bases!

That's it for now!

Showcase: Obsidian Knight

The third knight of the lance commission is now done. The customer wanted it this way instead of another Hawkshrowd.

The shoulder decals were a lot of work, took many soakings with microsol to get them sitting flat. But they turned out just about perfect.

Showcase: House Hawkshroud Knight Titans

A big commission is now complete (but still one more to go) of a pair of Knight Titans done up in House Hawkshroud colors.

They turned out absolutely amazing and I'm so very happy.  Yellow was done the same way as always: base of Ushabi Bone with layers of Lamenter's Yellow glaze.  The glaze was thinned down and done in only 2 layers as the customer wanted a lighter yellow then the Imperial Fists bikes I did.

After all that was done then came the decals with lots of Micro-Sol.  However I have to say the decals with this kit are just fantastic.  Thick enough not to break but not so thick as to be hard to work with.  Almost no flash around the image as well making it very easy for the areas the decal touches the raised trim.

Anyway, pics!

Showcase: Icy Ork Goff Bikers

Another finished commission.  This time a full unit of Icy Ork bikers with a painboy.

Some of the models have Spellcrow resin heads. They don't fit perfectly on bikes and will work much better on infantry. Some of them just don't fit at all.

I will be using them for a few games and tournaments, as a 2nd unit next to my own bikes.

Tomorrow: another completed commission.

Showcase: Vindicare Assassin

Pretty much just copied the paint job off the GW website.

Not much to say on this guy. I did look forward to it, as it's smaller then a space marine or Ork, so it was something different.

Now that's all done, off to the Sterngaurd I go!

Showcase: Imperial Fists Centurions

Another commission completed.

These guys are a real pain to paint, with all the surface detail on the armor.  Getting the back of the models wasn't as hard as I thought they would be.  But man, trying to paint the details without screwing up the yellow was seriously time consuming.

On the bench is more commission work, will post when those are complete!

On the bench: Commission test model - Icy Ork Goff biker

I'm going to be building and painting my cousin's Ork biker army. He came up with the idea of the blue skin, which I used on my Orcs & Goblins army, and he wants on his Ork army.

he's had the models for years, just sitting around, and finally wants them done.  Unlike my previous commissions which were paint only, these all came on the sprue.

I've built 12 of them so far, mixing in some choppas and sluggas from the Boys box for a bit of variety.

The contrast between the black armor and the light blue skin I think is just amazing. It's only a work in progress, but really only some detailing and a second layer on the skin is left. I chipped up the edges of the armor, but did it pre-wash. I think it needs to be done post-wash for a bit more brightness. I'll fix that.  I'm also not sold on the red belt on the rider. Lastly, I need a much lighter blue for the skin layer, I don't want to have to mix paints like I did with my Orcs.  The only GW one is an edge paint, and that might work if I didn't have to order it.  I'll see what my FLGS has from Vallejo and Badger.

I'm also steadily working on my Death Company models. But I really have not wanted to work on them much so building and painting the Ork bikers has been on the bench more then they have.

Anyway, that's it for tonight. Later!

Quick update: first airbrushed power sword

Did this today, it's not perfect but came out pretty good. I had some paint peel off with the masking tape so having to fix that with a brush hurt the final product.

Overall though, for a first try I think it came out pretty darn swell

It wasn't fast though, as I spent more time cleaning the brush for color changes then actual painting. Moral of the story: don't do one of these at a time!

That's it for now!

WiP: Khan on Moondrakkan

Another commission piece.

Instead of going with a "counts as", the owner wanted a traditional White Scars look.

the white comes from Badger Minitaire Skull White over white primer.  It's actually a pretty good white, and so far covering up the occasional mistake has been pretty easy.

That's it for now!

Showcase: Fire Lords mounted command squad.

Finished the next commission project.

The shoulder pads were a lot harder to do then I thought they would be. I ended up completely redoing them once. No, I didn't take any pictures of the failure...but let's just say they looked more like Bart Simpson then fire.

The power axes were wet blended from white to black and I think came out very nice.

The flames are all hand-painted. I painted the fender bone, then glazed it with the yellow. For the orange I used red glaze.

Anyway, pics!

WiP: Fire Lords mounted command squad part 2

Been steadily working on these guys, going a lot faster then I had anticipated.  They are actually very close to being done.

I think they are a bit dark actually, but they will look great in contrast with the bright yellow of the Imperial Fists I've done.

Not much to say,  so just a pic!

off to bed, and as always more to come.

WiP: Fire Lords command squad on bikes, Ork summoned Deamonettes.

The friend that I've been painting Imperial Fists bikes and Stormtalons for is also running an allied command squad. Nothing unusual with that, in fact it's really good.   But he wanted a different chapter and decided on Fire Lords.  However after much searching, it looks like no one has ever put Fire Lords on bikes, so I had to come up with something of my own.

I wanted a bit of yellow on the bikes but didn't think doing a particular section of the armor would look right.  So I decided on flames. I'm waiting to hear back just to make sure the owner is ok with it before I continue.

But even if he isn't happy with it, I really am! lol.

anyway, wip pic.

I also finished a test model for my deamonettes, but I'm not entirely happy with it. The skin turned out a bit too purple in places, but that is just doing a better job. The rest of them will be more grey and less purple.  But the amount of green is just what I wanted.

The glowing Ork glyph beneath her feet was an idea from a youtube comment, and I think it's going to add a lot to the models.  I just need to work on the glow effect.

Anyway I have lots to keep me busy, that's for sure.  I will be primarily working on the bikes, but the deamonettes won't take very long.  Then probably the Mek Guns are next.

Completed projects: Meks, Imperial Fists Storm Talon

More finished projects.

First, a second Imperial Fists Storm Talon for commission.  Pretty much identical to the first, with the exception of the number and name.  I enjoyed this a lot, having figured out exactly what to do.

Second project was just one night of painting..a pair of meks.  Just boring, standard meks built from the Loota/Burna box.  I was thinking about magnetizing an arm in case I ever wanted to take killsaws. I still can sometime in the future, but for now it's good.  I also might need one or two with rockkets..not sure yet.  so many options but keeping them cheap is probably the best way.

The main use for these guys will be to have a character to babysit lootas.

What I like best about these is the mix of metal colors - Tin Bitz (I have a barely used pot of it), Leadbeltcher and Balthasar Gold - all with a Necron Compound drybrush.

Anyway not sure what's next on the bench.  I might paint up the VSG...

Blood Axe Kill Krusha complete!

After a week of waiting for the oil washes to dry, I finished it up today.

Just pics.

That's it.  Working on my Riptide for now.

Showcase: Imperial Fists Storm Talon & Bikes commission.

So this is the commission I've been working on over the last 2 weeks that was the subject of my painting log.

Logging the progress is a good idea, gives me an idea of what it takes to actually finish a project. It's something I probably should have been doing more.  Dunno. *shrugs*

Anyway, lots of pics!

I don't know what company makes the weapons, but they make pretty good Grav Guns.  The combi-grav arms are not for these bikes, but previous Sergent bikes I've done.

That's it for now! I have to stare at the kill krusha for a while until I figure out what I'm doing with it.
