On the bench: Trukk work in progress

I finished the Tank Bustas and Trukk boys so I grabbed one of the Trukks.  I am going to be using the same basic colors for the Trukk as I used on the boys that will ride in it: Hormagaunt purple, dark brown and codex grey.

I am going to be using some hairspray chipping, but not a lot.

I also remembered I have one more Gorkamorka-style warbike in my bits. I never built it since the old squad size was 12, and now they are 15. I will be tying to get 2 more of them, plus 10 more of the metal 3rd-edition metal stormboyz to match my current models.

I'm also trying to work up a new list to include bikers for next month, maybe even battlewagons. I've got a firm grip on the horde, now I want to mix it up some and try out some speed.

That's it for now!

Studio Update and 200,000 views!

I just noticed the other day I went over 200,000 views on this blog.  Wow. Thank you everyone for reading and being interested in my hobby.  I went into the archive and the post that was 100,000 views was in July 2013. 4 years for the first 100,000 yet only 15 months for the second. I hope to get the next 100,000 in less then a  year.

Last few days since I finished Khan I have not had any major projects, so I grabbed some minor stuff to do. I finished building and assembling my Farsight model. I bought it when the new Tau book first came out..that's how long it's been sitting.

I have also been playing with my Trukk boys unit and tankbustas, only to realize the models needed some work. They were both done in just a base coat and wash. I've gone through, fixed the chips on the metal models, added layers to the skin, fixed up teeth and other details, added a unique base rim color to both units and finally given them a proper varnish.  Much improved for not a lot of work.

Since this unit of boys is a dedicated Trukk unit, I will probably paint up one of the trukks specifically to go with them.  Might also mean I'll actually paint one of the trukks...

Also today is my 6th year anniversary on Youtube.

This has been one hell of an awesome week for me.

I won the Star Trek Attack Wing Portland regional!

Loot from the tournament today at Rose City Comic Con - Borg Assimilation cube and a DS9 model, plus a GenKhan card and the cloaked ships from GenCon, plus extra set of DS9 crew cards.

Quite the haul. It was awesome!

Quick update: first airbrushed power sword

Did this today, it's not perfect but came out pretty good. I had some paint peel off with the masking tape so having to fix that with a brush hurt the final product.

Overall though, for a first try I think it came out pretty darn swell

It wasn't fast though, as I spent more time cleaning the brush for color changes then actual painting. Moral of the story: don't do one of these at a time!

That's it for now!

WiP: Khan on Moondrakkan

Another commission piece.

Instead of going with a "counts as", the owner wanted a traditional White Scars look.

the white comes from Badger Minitaire Skull White over white primer.  It's actually a pretty good white, and so far covering up the occasional mistake has been pretty easy.

That's it for now!

The Mek Guns are done! The Mek Guns are done!

Well, almost. Still need to do the final varnish.

But other then that they are completely done.  After the last brushstroke, I stopped for a second and realized they were actually, finally done.

Months of time, hours and hours of work in building and painting finally all done.

I have 5 Lobbas, 3 Kannon, 3 Kustom Mega-kannons and 6 Smasha Guns/Tracktor Kannons, 6 energy packs plus 10 chassis.

I'm still a little shocked it's all finally come to an end.

Anyway, pics then off to bed.

Showcase: Ork Painboy

I had some delays while making some decisions on certain parts of the model, but it's all done now.  I really like how it turned out, including adding some Blood for the Blood God.

The tubes and vials were the hold up, but I finally decided on  various washes and glazes for the color, and adding bubbles in them not unlike the stock paint job. It actually ads quite a bit of interest, especially with the color variations I got with the method I used.

The only part of the model I didn't like was the Grot Orderly.  The mouth is just really funny and not sculpted well.  One thing for sure, the swiss-army hand has really grown on me. It's not so bad when you have the model in front of you.

Anyway, pic!

I know I've really put off the Bloodthirster, but this was more important. I also have another commission piece coming up next week, which will eat into my time. I also have plans forming for my Freebootaz Toys for Tots donation this year..

On the bench: Painboy, Mek Guns works in progress

It's been a few days since I posted anything, and that's because I've been furioiusly working on Mek guns. Holy Mork it's to the point where I just want them all done and out of my life!  But I still have a lot of work to do.

At least all the chassis are done except for varnish now.  These are far less rusty and far less chipped then the first set.

Since I will be playing him tonight at league, I decided to get at least the base coats on the painboy.  This is the progress after dinner while watching a couple episodes of Burn Notice on Netflix.

I am considering what I will be doing for toys for tots this year.  It may be ordinary..or something very, very interesting.  Depends on how much time I want to invest in it..it won't take any money no matter what I do.
